Wh40K: Necron Destroyer by StugMeister Wh40K: Necron Destroyer by StugMeister
With this pic I really wanted to go to town and try to use the skills that I've recently been learning with my speed-paints. The basica plan was to do all the tonal work and then colour over the top for a full-colour finished pic. Unfortunately the colour just didn't work. :(

Hey ho, you live and learn! Took about four hours overall.

edit - BOOYA!! 50th Deviation!! :D

I like what you've done, 2 things in particular stand out to me. Even though it's B&W I still get a good feeling of the blinding power of the weapon good job on getting that across also the environment really feels windswept and barren, if it was colour I can imagine being very dry earthy tones almost mars like.

I really spent a lot of time working on the values for the gauss beam, so I'm glad it paid off! :D

Ah, Necrons vs Tau... a not-so-classic battle of old vs new, ancient vs young. The feeling of speed isn't lost in this piece.

Oo really cool, scary and futuristic. The details are wicked and I love how the black and white works so well, the way you have lighted the scene is perfect. This isn't really ny kind of thing but i can appreciated the time and skills that have gone into this :aww:

The details and textures are great and I almost think that maybe the color would take away from it. That this looks like a quick shot taken in the heat of it and that it just feels more intense then if there was color

That 'quick shot' thing is exactly what I was aiming for - I'm glad it gives that feeling! :)

The power of that gun is insane! It can bllast right trough a Land Raider's armour. That kind of power is usually only found on Titan class weapons... that's powerful.

Awesome as always :D

Its a shame really - I started playing 40K when 2nd ed came out. Played it for years as Eldar then moved onto Chaos then Imp Guard.

I had a period of a few years when I went off GW and wargaming. I came back to it in the twilight of 3rd ed and built up a Necron army - my first ever painted army! I had ONE GAME versus my bro and his new Tau. Now they languish in my display cabinet, never to go to war again... :(

So, your mates Destroyers - they kick arse yes? :)

Yup, I play as a very tank oriented Imperial Guard army, Armagedon Steal legion. He uses the fast fuckers to flank my armour, get a few shots and then disapear, he repeats this untill my tank column is scrapmetal... That's five Leman Russ battle tanks by the way... But soon I will bring down the empire's armoured fury on the fucker with a BANEBLADE! :evillaugh:

I wasn't sure what to do with the background but as my brother said - you're concentrating on the Necorn Destroyer, not the background!

Awesome, instant fav. And the necron monolith spawning the hordes of metallic undead is a nice touch... though we should all keep silent for a second or two to honor the dead and dying TAU forces....

nice work d00d3....
the textures are excellent and the pose of the 'bot is awesome....
one minor thing...i personally think the face and its left hand ' sink ' a little far back...just the slightest darker shade on each would bring them up to the same level as the rest....like i said...its a very minor observation....
great feeling of action and purpose caught in the image....
and awesome brush stroke work....

Cheers xHaStex! :)

The head and arm were originally as dark as the rest of the Necron. I think the main problem was me adding bloom from the sky, seems maybe to have washed out the head and arm in particular.

Indeed! :)

I can sometimes stare at one of my pics for ages trying to see problems. I'll squint my eyes to see what the tones a like, stand away from the monitor or at a different angle; rotate the image upside down; flip the image; scale it to postage-stamp sized! Then I'll upload the image and someone will point out the most OBVIOUS problem! :D
