Wh40K: Squat Air-Land Battle by StugMeister Wh40K: Squat Air-Land Battle by StugMeister
Once again I was commissioned to paint the two prizes for Epic-UK's Grand Tournament this year.

The Squats intrigue me as they are ripe for some modernisation. I love their oldy-worldy aesthetics, but some of their vehicles - especially the Gyrocopter need some work. I've kept the Colossus as it is, but with the Gyro I've added a helicopter-gunship-style cockpit and made the airframe more aerodynamic.

Painted in Photoshop CS1, took me around nine hours.

nice redesign of the gyro, it kind of needed it.

I find that extremly wierd, dwarfs are offend depicted as technologically advanced and industrial so they could fit in science fiction, but no some people think they can't fit while Elves, orks, undead, cat people and even freaking hobbits can for some reason.
Off the top of my head i can think of only one science fiction where there are Dwarves, ironically another tabletop game, the Forge Fathers from Warpath and they are getting a redesign and some new stuff next year.
I mean look at this tank

stocky, heavy armored and it even has a 'beard', can't get more dwarven then that :p

No. They're not back. And yes, it is all way far too expensive!

Their worlds getting eaten by Tyranids was retconned to be a filing error (that the Inquisition, Administratum, and Mechanicus promptly started blaming each other for), but they don't have models anymore.

Cheers dude. :ahoy:

I'd just recently re-watched Fury Road when I started this. To be honest I wanted to get up-close-and-personal, Mad Max-style; but the brief for the painting was for a battle scene so it needed to be further out. I might just re-visit the Squats and see about doing a Fury Road-type pic. Or maybe Orks.... :D

I trust you've never heard of the Piscean (also known as the Saharduin), they were shelved before they even reached the tabletop and only one model, a Piscean Warrior, got made and nothing of substance is written down about their army, vehicles, cities and other such things, only a snippet of text provides very limited info:

"Sarharduins possess a sinuous body, with a long, finned tail. They have two legs and two arms, and a mouthful of sharp teeth. They stand approximately seven and a half feet tall in their typical stance. They are water-dwelling organisms by nature, but solve this by using tanks of water for the purposes of breathing whilst off-world. Their weapons and armour are largely considered to be close to the Imperium's, but much more limited, as they haven't spread as far or made as many advances. They do boast some unique kit, including bolt weapons which are designed to work above and below water, for example. The Imperium fought a long war against the Sarharduin, but were unable to eradicate them: most of them were located in deep, sub-ocean dwellings, which made the conventional forms of devastating their worlds largely nonviable (excluding cyclonic torpedoes and orbital bombardments). so the Imperium was content to simply contain their worlds, set up defensive fleets, and eliminate the Xenos every time they tried to get off-world, though, a vessel slipped through every now and again. The details of their worlds, largely oceanic and unexplored, are currently unknown and unlikely to become known without aid from the Ordo Xenos."
